MapRun Courses in Canberra

MapRun6 is an Android/iOS orienteering app that provides GPS based punching and timing for courses. You can download it from the Google Play or Apple App Stores. See An Introduction to Using MapRun for more information on setting up and using the MapRun6 app. Once you have the app, you can access MapRun6 courses at anytime. Look at the MapRun Canberra site for details and maps of courses available locally, including those in the categories described below. This site includes links to the results page for each course, or see the Results section below. Do please comply with current distancing restrictions.

Bush Courses

We have a number of bush orienteering courses. These courses are coded as a traditional line course, where you visit each control in order. The MapRun Canberra - Bush Courses page provides information on available courses, and PDF maps which you can download and print. Then in the MapRun6 app, "Select Event" → "ACT" → "Bush" and pick the desired course.

Permanent Courses

Orienteering ACT have a number of Permanent Courses in parks and reserves in the Canberra region, a few of which also have MapRun6 versions. You can access more information about these courses and maps of them here. The MapRun Canberra - Permanent Courses lists available MapRun courses. Then in the MapRun6 app, "Select Event" → "ACT" → "Permanent" and pick the desired course.

Street-O Courses

We have a number of street orienteering style courses. These courses are coded as a 60 minute, scored, scatter course, where the aim is to navigate to as many controls as you can in 60 minutes. There are penalties if you run overtime. However you are welcome to treat them as a timed scatter course, for a specified number of controls (18, 15, 12 or 8 usually), and use your time as your result, ignoring the score. The MapRun Canberra - Street-O Courses page provides information on available courses, and PDF maps which you can download and print. Then in the MapRun6 app, "Select Event" → "ACT" → "StreetO" and pick the desired course.

Results

You can view your results for any event in the MapRun6 app, where you can also view "All Results for this Event" that have been uploaded to the server. If some controls failed to punch, once you've finished and are reviewing your results, you can select the menu button (3 lines) and then the "Review Results (HITMO)" to check how close you came to missing controls, and upload a revised result. There are also menu options to do a manual upload, or email the track to yourself.

You can also view course results on the MapRunners site by selecting "Results" then "Leader Board". Or just use the Leader Board QuickLink button. Start typing the event name you want into the "Filter:" box, and then select it from the dropdown menu (note, you may find some previous or test versions there, so select the current public course), and then select "OK". The course results are shown. You can click on any column header to sort results by that column value. Or you can click on the "Track" link to see the RouteGadget track for any participant.

Please let us know if you find any control locations out of place, or encounter any other problems with these courses.
